Harvesting Memories and Raising a Glass to the Unexpected in Northern Utah
PLEASANT VIEW, UT — A groundbreaking new destination is making its mark on Northern Utah's wine scene—one that promises to harvest memories and offer a journey like no other. Purple Sky Winery, located in the charming town of Pleasant View, Utah is set to redefine winemaking in the Mountain West and become a legendary destination unlike anything the region has ever known.
The brainchild of Simon Goe, owner of the Snowville-based venture, Purple Sky Winery is not just a place to taste wine; it's a place to discover the unexpected. With wine fermenting in tanks and bottling set to begin in 2025, this new 200-acre winery is already on the map as a pioneer in the industry. "We're in the final stages of stabilization and have officially started bottling," shared winemaker David MaKieve. "This is an exciting moment for us as we move closer to sharing our vision with the world."
At the heart of Purple Sky's impressive start is 7,000 gallons of wine currently fermenting—a remarkable achievement for a winery that began with small ambitions. "We planted our first 5 acres of grapes in 2019," MaKieve explained. "It was a modest beginning, but the success of those first vines led us to expand quickly. We have over 200 acres of vineyards across four locations in Snowville, Honeyville, and Deweyville."
However, bringing winemaking to Northern Utah's unpredictable climate has been no easy feat. "Grapes are Mediterranean plants. They require hot summers and mild winters," MaKieve said. To combat this challenge, Purple Sky Winery uses hybrid grape varieties, combining the best traits of European vines with cold-hardy North American plants to thrive in Utah's unique weather.
The result? Sixteen wines that are perfect for every Utah palate—easy-drinking, fresh, and fruity. But Purple Sky Winery offers more than exceptional wine. It is also home to an extravagant, fine-dining restaurant led by a world-renowned chef with over 25 years of culinary excellence in New York, Colorado and now Northern Utah. This exclusive restaurant is an experience in itself, making Purple Sky a destination for wine connoisseurs and food lovers.
Beyond wine and food, Purple Sky is laying the groundwork for an event venue, which will open in the coming years, further enhancing its status as a premier destination in the region. This 200-acre winery, with its breathtaking views and world-class offerings, is all part of a larger plan to position Northern Utah as an emerging wine region—one that's destined to make waves both nationally and internationally.
"Our mission is to embrace the pioneering spirit ingrained in Utah's history," said MaKieve. "We are setting out to create something new, fresh, and innovative here in the Mountain West. We hope to offer something unexpected to both local guests and wine enthusiasts around the world."
So, what's next for Purple Sky Winery? As the vines mature, the wine flows, and memories are made, visitors are invited to Raise a Glass to the Unexpected at Purple Sky—where every visit promises new surprises and unforgettable moments.
